  • Built to Launch: Norwood's Capstone Projects | Capstone projects build on years of early learning, challenging students to think critically, communicate effectively, and collaborate creatively. These experiences prepare students for high school while showcasing the skills, confidence, and curiosity they developed at Norwood. 
  • Full Circle with Armistead Webster | After more than a decade as Norwood’s head of lower school (1999-2010) and subsequent leadership positions at other schools, Armistead Webster returned to “The Nest” in the fall of 2024—this time to the kindergarten classroom.
  • Growing Confident, Joyful Readers | At Norwood, we believe that learning to read is one of the most important—and magical—parts of early education. It’s the foundation for academic success and a gateway to imagination, empathy, and lifelong learning. 
  • Alumni Profile: Lee Lovett ’09 | 
    With a passion for helping young people navigate life’s challenges, Lee Lovett has already made his mark in the field of mental health. Just a few years after completing his training, Lee launched his own psychotherapy practice, focusing on supporting adolescents and their families.

SPRING 2025

  • Open for Business! | After two years of planning, designing, fundraising, and finally installing the new equipment, the new Norwood playground opened to great fanfare with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 9, 2025 - a perfect way to start the year!
  • Friendship in Full Bloom | We are grateful for six new Yoshino cherry trees, a special gift from our friends at the Washington Japanese Heritage Center (Keisho Center) who, for the past 13 years, have leased space from Norwood for their Japanese language school. 
  • Inside the Middle School Learning Lab | From providing classwork guidance to offering time management techniques, the Middle School Learning Lab is a vital resource that equips students with essential learning and organizational strategies that set the stage for academic and personal success. 
  • Alumni Profile: Katie Mark Clingman '08 | From engineer and architect to professional organizer and business owner, Katie Mark Clingman ’08 demonstrates how a career pivot can lead to more fulfilling work that sparks joy. In this inspiring profile, Katie shares her journey and the lessons learned along the way.

  • Playground Progress | Check out the progress made on the exciting new playground and sports court opening soon! We are just weeks away from unveiling the slides, swings, monkey bard, wobble boards, and the magnificent Blue Hawk climbing structure!
  • Trading Places: Ringing in New Division Leadership | On July 1, 2024, Mike Risen, former head of lower school, stepped in to the role of Norwood's new head of middle school, while Fielding Winters, former director of curriculum and instruction, took over as head of lower school.
  • Meet Norwood's New Board Chair | Meet Gabby Goddard, Norwood's new board chair, who brings a wealth of experience in education, a freshly minted doctorate (in education), and a deep-rooted passion for all things Norwood.
  • Alumni Profile: Jessie Thompson '07 | As senior manager of youth hockey development for the 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, Jessie is focused on connecting the DMV hockey community through innovative programming, new opportunities (especially for girls), and the love of the game.

  • Celebrating Leadership | Marking his 10-year anniversary as Norwood's head of school, Matthew Gould sat down with a group of middle school students to answer questions about his experiences over the past decade.
  • Developing Leadership Skills | Norwood students are expected to take their leadership responsibilities seriously. Along the way, they are supported by a talented faculty and staff and strong PK-8 curriculum designed to plant the early seeds of leadership.
  • In the Outdoor Classroom | Norwood's expansive outdoor spaces have evolved into an integral component of our child-centered learning environment, seamlessly extending the rich educational experiences provided within our classrooms.
  • Alumni Profile: Clay Ackerly ’91 & Sam Stadnik '08  | Two alumni (from difference Norwood eras) come together every weekday to provide a high-quality, patient-centered primary care experience at a new medical practice in DC's Spring Valley neighborhood.
