Marriott Early Childhood Building

Introducing the Marriott Early Childhood Building
An incredible new 25,000-square-foot learning space for students in grades PK-2

Opened September 2022

In the fall of 2016, Norwood School launched an ambitious $15M capital campaign, Our Children, Our Purpose, to raise funds to support two important goals: 1. Increase the School’s endowment, and 2. Construct a new building dedicated to our youngest learners. Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, which included delaying the start of construction by one year, Norwood reached its fundraising goals and officially broke ground on the new building on Founder’s Day, May 13, 2021. We officially opened the new building to the first group of students and teachers in grades PK-2 in September 2022.

  • 25,000 square feet of thoughtfully designed space to support flexible, collaborative, and innovative teaching and learning
  • 2,800-square-foot Lower School Library with adjacent outdoor terrace
  • 2 commons for community gatherings and with flexible teaching areas
  • 7 light-filled, flexible, and spacious classrooms for grades PK-2
  • 2 world language classrooms
  • Home to the Lower School Learning Specialist, Math Coordinator, and Reading/Language Arts Coordinator
  • Dedicated space for the Lower School Violin Program
  • Large outdoor courtyard for learning, playing, and gathering

The design of the Marriott Early Childhood Building delivers four transformative outcomes for students and teachers in grades PK-2:
  1. Flexible, child-centered classrooms best equipped to provide differentiated instruction
  2. Enhanced team-teaching opportunities in early elementary grades
  3. Increased curriculum/scheduling flexibility and efficiency
  4. Community spaces that inspire creative interaction, exploration, and small group learning

There is an exciting energy on campus as Norwood delivers on its commitment to provide innovative, dynamic, child-centered education at the very highest level and without compromise. The children we educate today will build the world of tomorrow, and Norwood nurtures confident and curious thinkers, self-aware and joyful creators, and ethical and empathic leaders who will make the world a better place.
