Community

For Our Neighbors

Norwood School is proud to be a member of the Bethesda/Potomac community.
We are located at the corner of River Road and Bradley Boulevard, across from Congressional Country Club. We value the positive relationships we enjoy with our neighbors and invite them to call for an appointment to tour our campus. This page has been created to share information of interest to the community. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Bill Teachum (301-841-2152).

Community Liaison Committee

A Community Liaison Committee (CLC), consisting of school and neighborhood representatives, was established in July 2011 to keep lines of communication open in regard to the School’s Transportation Management Plan, any potential operating issues, and any other issues of concern to the community and/or the School. All adjacent and confronting neighbors were invited to participate, in addition to civic associations and a representative of Montgomery County. The CLC meets four times a year.

Transportation Management Plan

Norwood adopted a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) in 2010 to monitor and manage traffic to and from our campus. Highlights of the plan include the appointment of a transportation coordinator (Bill Teachum 301-841-2152) and an auxiliary programs coordinator (Kevin Rechen 301-841-2166); the formation of the Community Liaison Committee; the establishment of vehicle trip caps (753 trips in the peak morning hour and 269 trips in the evening) and reporting of quarterly traffic counts to ensure compliance with the caps (all quarterly counts to date have been under the caps established by the county); and the introduction of a bus transportation program during the school year and summer months. Norwood currently operates five morning bus routes and one afternoon route during the school year.
Located in Bethesda, MD, Norwood School develops students in grades PK-8 into confident lifelong learners who have the academic, character, and leadership skills to succeed in high school and beyond. Recognizing that children are multi-faceted, Norwood provides many opportunities for safe risk-taking, exploration, discovery, and growth in a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive school community.
