At the FIRST LEGO League Maryland State Championship on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Norwood's Green Hawks robotics team delivered an incredible performance, competing against the top 70 teams in the state. For the second year in a row, they ranked among the top eight teams in the tournament, securing an impressive fourth place overall and qualifying—again—for an FLL International Invitational Tournament.
In addition, the team placed eighth in the Game Table category among all 70 competing teams, an extraordinary accomplishment at this level of competition.
But that’s not all! The Green Hawks proudly brought home a new trophy for Norwood as one of the top finalists in the competition—yet another testament to their preparation, perseverance, and innovative thinking.
Adding to the celebration, Director of Technology and lead robotics coach Juan Ramirez received the Coach/Mentor Award for the FLL season in the state of Maryland. Reflecting on the award, Juan shared: “I am honored to share this recognition with all the school robotics coaches: Joe Cunliffe, Jose Melendez, Sandra Gobar, and Arya Shafie. Their hard work, dedication, and belief in the program and its philosophy (and their patience with me!) have been invaluable. This recognition also goes out to all of you who believe in the program and what it means to the students who have committed to it.”
With leadership like this and students who embody the core values of teamwork and innovation, there’s truly no stopping Norwood Robotics!
