Each winter, Norwood’s seventh and eighth graders take part in one of the most anticipated experiences of their time in the Middle School: Intersession. Held early in the second semester, this four-day program offers students a break from their regular academic schedule and an opportunity to explore new interests through one- and two-day experiential learning activities.
Intersession is consistently cited by students as a highlight of their Middle School experience. Though brief, the program has a meaningful impact—strengthening relationships with teachers, deepening friendships among peers, and reinforcing the joy of learning that sits at the heart of Norwood’s educational philosophy.
The 2026 Intersession program, February 17-20, features an especially diverse and exciting lineup of offerings, both on and off campus. Students chose from experiences that span the arts, athletics, science, history, design, and media. Activities range from behind-the-scenes institutional visits and career explorations to creative studios, fitness challenges, and hands-on engineering projects. Whether recording music, training like a college athlete, exploring museums, debating philosophy, or designing and building models, students are encouraged to follow their curiosity and step outside their comfort zones.
By learning in new settings and alongside different peers and teachers, students experience education as collaborative, dynamic, and deeply engaging. While Intersession lasts just four days, it powerfully reflects what makes Norwood’s middle school program distinctive: meaningful connections, purposeful exploration, and a genuine love of learning.
