Equity & Inclusion Innovation Collaborative Held at Norwood on 11/16

Norwood School hosted an event for diversity practitioners of independent schools to exchange and collaborate on innovative ideas, strategies, and resources. The inaugural day-long event took place on Friday, November 16.
"As diversity practitioners, we are uniquely vested and situated to work in true collaboration and support to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in our schools and beyond," said Billy Vargas, director of diversity, equity, and community at Norwood. "Intended for independent school diversity practitioners who are responsible for leading and advancing equity and inclusion work in our schools, this gathering is meant to provide an open forum for exchange and collaboration in service of our respective school missions and the work more broadly."

The goals of the events were to:
  • Provide an open exchange of most innovative ideas, strategies and resources in our work;
  • Capture ideas and resources via an online living document accessible for ongoing utilization;
  • Create opportunities for meaningful and continued small-group collaboration.
Participants explored creative new ideas, examined answers to central questions, and considered opportunities for cross-school collaboration regarding five key areas of focus: Diversity Leadership, Facilitation and Training, Diversity Programming, Curriculum and Instruction, and Innovation. "We are grateful to all participants for sharing their wisdom and expertise, and are excited to continue collaborating as we seek further opportunities to advance equity and inclusion in our school communities and beyond," shared Billy.
