Middle School Students Receive Awards for Performance on National World Language Exams

Congratulations, felicidades, toutes nos félicitations, gratulationes, and gōng xǐ to the more than 35 middle school students who received awards for their performance on national world language exams this year! These students were recognized at a special world languages assembly for the full middle school community.
NATIONAL SPANISH EXAM
The National Spanish Examination, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, is given voluntarily by about 4,000 teachers throughout the United States to measure performance and achievement of students in grades 6-12 who are studying Spanish as a second language. This year, the National Spanish Exam was taken by our eighth graders.

1 Medalla de Oro (Gold Medal; top 5% in the nation)
7 Medallas de Plata (Silver Medals; top 15% in the nation)
1 Medallas de Bronce (Bronze Medals; top 25% in the nation)
2 Menciones Honoríficas (Honorable Mentions, top 50% in the nation)

NATIONAL SPANISH ASSESSMENT
The National Spanish Assessment, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, is an online, standardized, computer-graded assessment that measures content (what a student knows) and performance standards (what a student can do).  This year, the National Spanish Assessment was taken by our seventh graders.

Grade 7
9 students scored 96 and above
3 of these students received perfect scores in four categories: reading, listening, vocabulary, and grammar
 
NATIONAL FRENCH CONTEST (LE GRAND CONCOURS)
The National French Contest (Le Grand Concours) is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. More than 47,000 students from elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide took the exam this year.

NATIONAL LATIN EXAM
National Latin Exam, offered annually by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League, tests students’ command of Latin at appropriate levels and tests knowledge in the areas of grammar, comprehension, geography, history, and mythology.

CHINESE HANYU SHUIPING KAOSHI (HSK)
The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency, assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. Test takers who are able to pass the HSK Level 4 can converse in Chinese on a wide range of topics and are able to communicate fluently with native Chinese speakers.
