Fifth Graders Unveil their Contraption Challenges

In preparation for Super Science Week, fifth graders have been busy learning about the six different kinds of simple machines and were tasked with putting these machines to work.
Working in teams, they used this knowledge to design and build Rube Goldberg-inspired machines during a unit known as the Contraption Challenge. Contraptions were required to complete one of the following three tasks: raise a flag, put a penny in a bank, or turn off an alarm clock. They had to incorporate at least 10 steps and to include at least four of the six different simple machines. The contraptions were unveiled with great fanfare at the Super Science Week Open House on November 30, 2018.
