Green Hawks Robotics Team Competes at the FIRST LEGO League Razorback Open Invitational

After an outstanding performance at the FIRST LEGO League Maryland State Championship at the University of Maryland on February 25, 2023, Norwood's Green Hawks robotics team was selected to advance to the national competition held at the University of Arkansas, May 18-21, 2023—the first-ever Norwood robotics team to compete at the national level.
The Green Hawks competed with approximately 80 teams from around the world, many of them champions in their own regions. "It was like going to a soccer world cup," remarked Juan Ramirez, director of technology and robotics coach. "The level of competition and organization was higher than in Maryland."

The team was one of 30 to reach the second round for robot and program design but did not qualify as one of the eight teams in that category to advance. "Although the team did not return with an award, they had an all-around great time," said Juan. "Parents, coaches, and students agree that the tournament was a positive lifelong learning experience."

Special thanks to coaches Juan Ramirez, Jose Melendez, and Casey Kunkel, and to the Green Hawks families for supporting and encouraging the Green Hawks throughout this exciting year of Norwood robotics!
