Make A Gift

Gifts to Norwood School can be made in a variety of ways. All gifts provide immediate benefits to the School and are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Gifts of Cash

Please make checks payable to Norwood School. A cash gift entitles the donor to an income cash deduction in the year in which the gift is made.

Credit Cards

Contributions can be made online by credit card using VISA, MasterCard, or American Express.

Matching Gifts

Companies often sponsor matching gift programs that enhance their employees’ charitable contributions. When gifts are matched, Norwood benefits from the increased donation and the donor often qualifies for a higher Gift Club category. Please contact your employer’s human resources department for information on matching gifts to schools.

Gifts of Marketable Securities

Norwood will accept a gift of marketable securities in any amount. If you have held the security for more than one year, you may be eligible for an income tax deduction for the value of the security on the date of the gift and you will not incur capital gains tax liability on the excess of that value over your cost basis. To donate securities, please instruct your broker to hold the stock for Norwood School and contact the School’s broker at Merrill Lynch. The School will give you credit for the value of the securities on the date of the gift.

Real Estate

Norwood will accept certain gifts of real property or a remainder gift in real property if it has no mortgage, is immediately saleable, and does not create a risk of imposing liability on the School under federal or state environmental laws.

Life Insurance

Norwood may accept gifts of life insurance policies both when a donor contributes an existing policy and when the donor pays for a new policy to be owned by the School.

Tangible Personal Property

The School may accept outright gifts of property such as paintings, silver, etc., if the property either meets the needs of the School or is readily saleable. Gifts of $5,000 or more must be accompanied by an independent, third-party appraisal.
