  • After Care Program Staff

    Founded in 1952, Norwood School is a coeducational, independent day school with approximately 450 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school sits on 38 beautiful and expansive acres in Bethesda, Maryland, less than six miles from Washington, D.C.     Norwood is seeking fun-loving, energetic, and dependable After Care Staff who love working with children (ages 4-14) and are available to work "after school" hours (M-F, 2:00-6:00 p.m.). Additional hours may be offered on days when school is out (ie: professional days, parent-teacher conferences, etc.). The position offers competitive compensation and an excellent work environment. Norwood’s After Care Program is a play-based, teacher-guided program promoting healthy social and emotional development of young children in a child-centered environment.
     
    Qualified candidates must be at least 21 years of age and have at least 1-2 years of experience working with children in a childcare or summer camp setting as a teacher or group leader.

    Additional qualifications include:
    • Must be Maryland School Age Childcare Teacher qualified (possessing the 90-hour school age certification or the equivalent of approved school-age coursework), or hold an associates or bachelor’s degree (with transcripts) in Early Childcare Education (ECE).
    • Demonstrated skills establishing effective relationships with staff, parents, and children
    • Patience and flexibility
    • Classroom management skills
    • Strong work ethic and communication skills
    • Basic computer skills
    • Reliable transportation
    Essential functions include:
    • Provide care and oversight to students during activities such as indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, cooking, daily snack distribution and cleanup, and homework support for students in grades 3-8 (as needed).
    • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for students in collaboration with team members.
    • Work collaboratively with the After Care Program Director to provide a consistent approach in supporting each child’s developmental needs.
    • Maintain health and safety standards that promote high quality care for young children as prescribed by the Maryland Department of Education’s Office of Child Care.
    Successful candidates will be required to maintain first aid and CPR certifications and participate annually in required CEU training approved by the Maryland Department of Education’s Office of Child Care. In addition, candidates must meet the licensing requirements set forth by the State of Maryland’s Office of Child Care and other regulatory agencies, including a pre-employment medical exam. A State of Maryland and FBI background check will also be performed.

    Norwood is seeking a reliable individual to join our security team. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe environment, monitoring premises/parking during rentals and providing assistance as needed. 
     
    Requirements:
    • Interfacing with renters/strong communication skills
    • Ability to work independently
    • Must be available Saturdays and flexible for additional hours
