Norwood Athletic Facilities Use Guidelines

List of 8 items.

  • Application and Team Contact

Teams requesting use of Norwood athletic facilities must complete an application that includes the name, phone number, and email address of at least one team contact who must be a Norwood parent. Applications and checks must be received by the stated deadline.

The security officer will notify team contacts of practice cancellations due to school conflicts or emergencies. Fields will also be closed in the event of inclement weather at practice time OR if the Athletic and Grounds departments determine that the fields are too wet to be used without damaging the grass. Please check for a voice recording on the Auxiliary Program Hotline (301-841-4337) if it has rained or snowed within 24 hours before your scheduled practice. Outdoor teams may not use indoor facilities in lieu of cancelled field time. Team contacts are responsible for notifying team members of any cancellations.
  • Adult Presence

In addition to the coach, teams shall have one or more adults present, including at least one Norwood parent, in case of injury or emergency and to remain at the field or gym until all players have been picked up by a parent or guardian. The School is not responsible for unattended children. An adult must supervise players using the locker rooms. Parents or guardians are responsible for the safety and behavior of other children brought by them to practice. Children must be dropped off and picked up from the coach’s care. Children may not enter a playing field or gym unattended. Children may not roam into any other part of the building.
  • Security

At the end of practice, coaches are responsible for making sure that doors are secured, locker rooms are vacated, and that the coach or an adult designee is the last person to leave.
  • Field/Gym Cleanliness

Coaches/managers are responsible for trash removal after practice. Teams that repeatedly leave their assigned areas littered will lose their practice privileges. Non-marring soled shoes only are permitted in the gym. No food or drinks, other than water, are permitted in the gym.
  • Equipment

Teams must supply their own balls, bats, cones, practice jerseys, etc. Norwood School athletic equipment is not to be used by recreational teams. The one exception is portable goals. Recreational teams may use portable goals available on site; however, coaches or players may not move Norwood soccer or portable basketball goals. Coaches and parents should instruct players and children not to climb on, hang from, or in any way adjust a goal. Goals must be inspected at the beginning of every practice for loose parts, missing stakes, protrusions, loose netting, and any other problem that could cause an injury. If such a situation exists, the goal must not be used in the field of play and Norwood’s athletic director should be immediately notified.
  • First Aid

Teams should have a first aid kit and ice (for sprains/bruises) at every practice. Since there is no telephone access, it is suggested that the coach carry a cell phone to practice if possible. Please notify the security officer within 24 hours in the event of any injury requiring medical attention.
  • Parking

Parking is allowed only in parking lots and in lined spaces along roadways. Do not park on the grass or on sides of the road not intended for parking and do not drive onto the fields for any reason. Parking is no longer permitted at the Bradley Softball Field. Parents/guardians should park at the lower or middle school lots and walk players to and from the field.
  • Team Parties

The fee for field and gym usage also entitles you for use of a space for a team party. Please contact Cathy Russo in the Middle School Office at 301-841-2101 regarding availability.
