A Crabby Day in Second-Grade Social Studies

Second graders begin their social studies curriculum by studying our region. They then expand to other cultures around the world.
Right now, they are learning all about the Chesapeake Bay. Recently the class enjoyed a visit from a second-grade parent, Kim Koch, whose family has a long history of living on and enjoying the Bay. Mrs. Koch talked about blue crabs and crabbing—and even brought in some crabby friends (one, in particular, was especially crabby). The second graders also had fun learning about Calvert Cliffs and fossil shark teeth—especially the big ones from Megatooth sharks (megalodons). Thank you, Mrs. Koch, for this fantastic tour of the Bay!
