Learning About Chinese Tea Culture

Middle school students studying Chinese were treated to an authentic tea ceremony, where they learned about different kinds of tea, how it is prepared, and its many health benefits. We were fortunate to have special guest and tea expert Sophia Zao with us to share all kinds of information about the Chinese art of drinking tea, called "chayi."
Students learned that is filled with special preparation methods, rituals, and equipment. They enjoyed learning about oolong teas and green teas and black teas, as well as the brewing and serving methods. Of course, tasting the different teas was a highlight of the lesson.
