Buying and Selling at the Fifth Grade Agora

The year is 323 BC, and the Athenian Assembly is gathering today. From far and wide, people are traveling to the bustling Agora in Athens. Fifth graders selected a person who would have been at the Agora (such as a textile vendor, a basket weaver, or a olive oil producer), conducted research, and wrote a script that their character might have delivered to attract attention in the city center.
The students did a fantastic job getting into character and showing off artifacts and wares to the visiting parents, faculty, and staff. This fun project is a highlight of the fifth graders' social studies unit on ancient Greece and Rome.
