Norwood is a place where you can express your creativity. Norwood is a place where teachers encourage us to define ourselves as we choose. Norwood is a place where you are encouraged to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Norwood is also a community: a loving, caring, and diverse community that I was grateful to come to every day.
Kate
Norwood is a very special place where students work hard and enjoy themselves at the same time. It is a place that feels like a second home because the teachers and the students are very welcoming. Everyone at Norwood is supportive and kind.

I love Norwood because of its focus on balance in academics, athletics, and the arts; its emphasis on serving and helping others; and its vibrant, exciting, and welcoming community and environment. Because of Norwood, I really got to understand a deeper meaning of what it means to serve others.
Zaira
Norwood not only has an amazing program that incorporates the arts at a very young age, but it also has amazing math and science programs. Norwood is a tight-knit community that sticks together even after students graduate.
Alex
Norwood gives everyone a chance to try new things and find what they like to do. Norwood gave me lots of options and let me try new things. The most interesting project for me was the history research paper in eighth grade because it taught me how to manage my time.
Sidney
Norwood has provided me with the freedom to make mistakes, big and small. At Norwood, a mistake is seen as a teaching moment and something we can all learn from. If I couldn’t do my best at something, I was always given the opportunity to improve and learn how to do better next time.

Norwood has given me a space where I felt safe to try new things and learn about myself. Because of the environment, I broadened my horizons. In seventh grade, I learned that I love debate, which I have continued to pursue. I might never have done this if Norwood had not encouraged me to try as many things as I wanted, and given me so many opportunities.

Norwood is like a second home to me. I have had so much fun here. I have made unforgettable friendships; and, most of all, Norwood was supportive of my decisions. I have learned that you need to be your best self, do your best work, and always have confidence in everything you do.
Rohan
Norwood has some of the best teachers in the world. I really liked activities such as Summit, Robotics, and the musical. My favorite memory was going to states with the Blue Hawks and green Hawks robotics teams. I also liked the Sludge Project in science and the research paper in history.
Mila
What sets Norwood apart is that because it is a smaller school, kids get the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential before going to high school. With the strong math and English programs, the very interesting history and science programs, and the amazing studio and performing arts, students have amazing experiences before going to high school.
Lawrence
I will miss Norwood’s hands-on approach to learning and the amazing community feel. My best piece of advice for younger students is to branch out and try new things, like the musical or debate. I never thought I would get a lead in the musical.
Daryn
My time here has been beyond words. I’ve not just learned academically but emotionally as well. I’ve learned how to think with an open mind and how to be a helpful contributor to society. I’ve learned how to carry myself in a confident manner and have fun while doing grueling tasks.
Derick
Norwood is a great place for students to try new things in a forgiving and welcoming environment. While academically challenging and rigorous, Norwood teachers teach the material in a fun and effective way.
Lucie
I love Norwood because I’ve grown up here and have gotten really good opportunities to grow as a student and as a person. It’s been my childhood, and all the teachers know me and my family well. Because of Norwood I learned to value community and the people.
Zachary
Norwood is a place where students are able to explore their interests and pursue new ones. It is also a place where students are able to challenge themselves and know that they have a support system of teachers and administrators behind them.
The ringing of the Norwood Bell is a common sound during the school day. It signifies the end of recess and time to return to class. Lower schoolers (and we suspect some middle schoolers) enjoy the opportunity to ring the bell with permission from their teacher. On graduation day, it is a tradition that each eighth grader ring the bell one last time (pictured in the photos above) before the ceremony begins.
Located in Bethesda, MD, Norwood School develops students in grades PK-8 into confident lifelong learners who have the academic, character, and leadership skills to succeed in high school and beyond.
