Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in “Supporting Norwood!”
Norwood’s fundraising programs are critical to the health of the School and the education of our students. Like all independent schools, Norwood’s tuition does not cover the full cost of a child’s education. In fact, the difference between tuition and actual costs exceeds $4,000 per student—and fundraising efforts help bridge the gap.
The Annual Fund, which offsets operating expenses in the current school year, is Norwood's top fundraising priority every year. The annual giving goal this year is $650,000. We are fortunate, indeed, to have the leadership of current parents, Elissa and Jeff Thompson, who along with a wonderful team of class captains are laying the groundwork to ensure that we continue this year the tradition of strong annual giving at Norwood.
In addition to the Annual Fund, Norwood is working hard to complete the funding of the Murray Arts Center projects. The School recently expanded and renovated the Murray Arts Center building which enhanced our music and arts programs, and allowed the addition of a Learning Center and sorely needed classroom space to our facility. We also renovated the courtyard area in front of the Murray Arts Center and built beautiful new outdoor learning space on the east side of the building. The courtyard project, which was completed last fall, allows handicapped access from the Steuart Building into the Murray Arts Center, adds amphitheater seating to accommodate an entire grade level of lower school students, and includes a special garden across from the barbeque area. We have already raised $2 million for the Murray projects and look forward to concluding this effort soon.
We are also committed to the continued growth of Norwood’s endowment. In recent years, the endowment has expanded from $750,000 in the late 1990s to $4.1 million as of June 30, 2007. Notwithstanding this impressive growth, our endowment still falls short of the national average for schools of our size. To help secure Norwood’s future, we encourage you to consider supporting one of the following endowments that directly benefit our exceptional faculty: The Ewing Endowment for Educational Excellence, the Weedie Block Professional Development Fund, and the Frances B. Marsh Founder’s Fund. We are also seeking significant support for the Financial Aid Endowment so that we may enroll and better serve an increasingly diverse student population.
Please join us in making Norwood the best it can be!
