Support

Frances Marsh founded a school with a clear purpose, based on strong values, and dependent upon generous support for success. Norwood has grown and thrived for more than 60 years because our community embraces her vision.

Parents, grandparents, alumni, teachers, parents of alumni, and friends of Norwood ensure our continuing academic excellence and financial stability each year by giving to the School. The following initiatives represent our main areas of philanthropic involvement:

The Annual Fund

The yearly request for financial contributions to enhance the current year’s operating budget. Appeals begin in October and continue through June 30, the close of the fiscal calendar. The Annual Fund is the cornerstone of Norwood’s fundraising efforts. Annual Fund donations support all aspects of the operating budget, including the cost of attracting and retaining the best teachers, offering excellent academic programming, and equipping and maintaining our facilities.

The Norwood Annual Benefit

Parent volunteers organize an evening social event and auction in support of the School’s financial aid program each year. Norwood asks the community to consider contributions of auction items and to participate in the auction event, held in the winter. Opportunities are also available for businesses to advertise or otherwise sponsor the event. One in five Norwood School students receives some form of financial assistance, and Norwood is able to provide this funding through the operating budget and, in part, the anticipated proceeds from our annual auction benefit.

Capital Giving

Periodically, Norwood undertakes a capital campaign to fund large-scale needs, including building projects, endowment funding, and financial aid. Building Futures, the last major capital campaign at Norwood, ran through 2000 and raised more than $12m toward the creation of the Middle School, the purchase of the adjacent Hyde Property, and endowment. Also, our ongoing major gifts program encourages larger gifts for specific initiatives outside the cycle of a major capital campaign.

Planned Giving

Planned giving allows donors to support Norwood School through estate and tax planning, which can provide for the School in ways that maximize the gift and/or minimize its impact on a donor’s estate. Norwood established the Oak Tree Society in 1994 to recognize the generosity of those who have made these provisions for Norwood in their estate plans. A bequest or trust of any size helps secure Norwood’s future for generations of students.

Our Volunteers

Norwood School is very grateful to the many people who give their most precious resource every year: their time.
