Junior Day Camp (3 1/2 and 4 years olds)
Sessions I, II, and III
During the summer, Junior Day Camp is the place to be! Summer at Norwood is pleased to offer
this premier program, for three and a half, four, and five year olds who have not yet attended
kindergarten. Junior Day Camp is made up of small groups of no more than 15 campers, with
one experienced professional and two select counselors for each group - a 5:1 ratio!
A regular day includes rotation through three activities, snack, and outside playtime with
frequent water play (weather permitting). Half-day campers go home prior to lunch. Full-day
campers stay for lunch, rest time, and larger group activities.
Activity Descriptions:
Music and Movement – In this class, students will participate in games which will focus on
coordination and balance. Additionally, there will be time spent on stretching and building
flexibility. What is movement without music? Fun children’s songs and music will be played to
aid us in our movement.
Science and Nature – Junior Day campers will learn about life outdoors. They will explore
animals, plants, and trees. Campers will participate in hands-on activities introducing them to
the world of science.
Math Fun – Campers can expect to explore numbers, patterns, and counting in this fun Math
class. They will have a hands-on opportunity to gain a greater understanding of each concept.
Books and games will be used as a way to reinforce each concept as it is taught.
Sports and Games – Games geared towards learning teamwork are the focus of this fun class!
Campers will participate in games that will help them build endurance and coordination while
reinforcing important skills such as following directions. Additionally, campers will have a
chance to use a variety of athletic equipment.
Language Explorations – This class will give campers an opportunity to learn about the many different cultures in the world. They will be introduced to basic Spanish by singing songs, making projects, and playing games. In addition to learning about culture and language, campers will have an introduction to world geography.
Reading Fun – Junior Day campers will read stories appropriate to their age level. Books will be selected according to the weekly theme. Campers will work on projects and activities related to the story to help enforce the theme and encourage them to be excited about reading and learning new words.
