Counselor in Training
Full-day programs
Summer at Norwood is pleased to offer an outstanding fun and interactive program that in only four years
has grown to be known as one of the best training programs in the area. The Counselor in Training program
is a full-day course. There are two levels of training– CIT I and CIT II. If you are entering 8th or 9th grade, you
are eligible for the CIT I program. Only students entering 9th grade who have completed our CIT I program
are eligible for CIT II. The goal of the program is to provide you with opportunities to make decisions, be a
leader, and learn skills that will be useful as you progress through school and life!
CIT I
Grades 8-9
Sessions I, II, and III
As a CIT, you have a chance to learn the skills required to work with groups of young children. Training
includes certification in CPR, First Aid, and the Babysitter’s Training Program, along with fun group team
building activities, both indoors and outdoors. You will work with CIT IIs to help implement camp-wide
special events. You also will spend time working on the most important aspects of getting a future job,
including writing cover letters, resumes, and participating in mock interviews. Then you will have a chance
to apply what you have learned by assisting in a specific camp class.
At the end of the program, you will receive a certificate of completion along with certificates for CPR, First Aid,
and the Babysitter’s Training Program.
CIT II
Grade 9
Sessions I, II, and III
As a CIT II you are not only re-certified in CPR, First
Aid, and the Babysitter’s Training Program, but will
participate in fun group team building activities,
both indoors and outdoors. During the second half
of the session, you will have the opportunity to
work with children in the classroom. CIT IIs will
spend several afternoons exploring insightful
group conversations, which serve as an effective
problem-solving tool.
At the end of the program, you will receive a
certificate of completion indicating two successful
counselor-in-training programs along with
certificates for CPR, First Aid, and the Babysitter’s
Training Program.
