Sessions I and II
Adventure I and II and Rock Climbing camp will provide you with countless opportunities to learn about the natural environment as you explore various local parks and natural
landmarks. In addition to providing learning opportunities, Adventure Camp presents you
with a chance to stretch your comfort zone through a variety of outdoor activities such as
rock climbing, rafting, caving, tubing, camping, kayaking and hiking.
Summer at Norwood hires only top-notch certified instructors to lead its Adventure Camp.
When necessary, we partner with Outdoor Excursions, Inc. and Calleva, two of the
Washington area’s most experienced outfitters.
A typical Adventure session begins with a day at Norwood's low ropes course and climbing
wall, where leadership, problem solving, self-confidence, and team building are the focus.
From there, you will be launched into weeks of excitement and fun, culminating with at
least one overnight camping trip and a trip to a water park!
Please note: A detailed schedule (subject to change due to bad weather) and a supply list
will be provided at the beginning of each session for both Adventure I and II.
Rock Climbing
Full-day program
*The cost for this program is $810
Grades 6-8
Session III
This two-week camp is open to climbers of all skill levels and offers an opportunity to explore "the rock" at a
variety of different locations, each offering a unique type of rock, geology and technique for climbing.
The first week encompasses basic climbing safety, gear, commands, and systems. It is an intense refresher for
the experienced climber and an opportunity to share skills with newcomers. In addition to extensive
opportunities for top-rope climbing, each day you will spend part of the day learning about movement on
rock, body position, balance, and poise through bouldering games.
Once you have warmed up, we will head for higher climbs! Week Two brings more opportunities to test skills
and expand climbing abilities and culminates in a three-day/two-night climbing and camping trip in West
Virginia. The views from some of these exposed cliffs are incredibly rewarding and worth the hike. There will
be an opportunity for stargazing at the campground in the evenings and for roasting hot dogs and
marshmallows!
Whether brand new to climbing or a "crag rat," this two-week intensive session of climbing skills should not
be missed!
