Summary of Benefits

Health Insurance – The School pays 70% of the individual premium and 50% of the dependents’ premium for employees who are 75% FTE* or more. The plan uses the Guardian PPO program and the Destiny Health HSA program. The School’s contribution is pro-rated proportionately for those who are between 50% and 74% FTE*.

Dental Insurance – The School pays 70% of the individual premium and 50% of the dependents’ premium for employees who are 75% FTE* or more. The plan uses the Guardian Dental program. The School’s contribution is pro-rated proportionately for those who are between 50% and 74% FTE*.

Integrated Flexible Benefits Plan – The School makes this plan available for medical premium payments, non-reimbursed medical expenses, and dependent care expenses to be paid through pre-tax deductions under Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Retirement – The School contributes 4% of an employee’s base salary to the TIAA/CREF Retirement Annuity program. For employees with five or more years of service at Norwood, this is increased to 5% and for employees with ten or more years of service, this is increased to 6%. The School also matches, dollar for dollar, contributions made to the program by the employee up to 2% of base salary. Supplemental Retirement Annuities (SRA’s) are available to all employees who wish to contribute additional amounts above 2% of base salary to the retirement program.

Life Insurance / Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D) – The School provides $50,000 in group term life insurance coverage for employees who are 75% FTE* or more. Also included in this policy is AD&D coverage. Both are provided through Independent School Management at no cost to the employee.

Disability Insurance – For employees who are 75% FTE* or more, the School provides long-term disability insurance through Assurant at no cost to the employee. This plan provides a benefit of 60% of base salary for total disability after a 90 day exclusion period. The School self-insures the initial 90 days at 100% of the employee’s salary for a documented disability.

Worker’s Compensation Insurance – The School provides standard mandated coverage through The Hartford Insurance Company.

Social Security/Medicare Insurance – The School complies with federal regulations, contributing 7.65% of salary or wages.

Tuition Remission – All employees of the School who are 75% FTE* or more are eligible to receive tuition remission for their children enrolled at Norwood School at the following rates:
Faculty and administrative professional staff: 50%
Support Staff: 25%

Faculty and staff whose salaries are less than 100% FTE* are eligible to receive a prorated tuition remission benefit equal to their FTE times the % tuition remission benefit. Standard admission criteria are applicable. Employees may apply for additional financial aid.

Interest free employee loans for computer equipment are made available through payroll deduction.

Professional Development – The School fosters a culture of professional growth by supporting attendance at educational conferences, workshops, and classes, including coursework leading to a graduate degree.

Sick Leave – The School provides eight paid sick days for faculty and staff who are eligible for benefits. Sick leave may be used to care for family members.

Parental Leave – Provides up to six weeks of paid leave to the primary caregiver following the birth or adoption of a child for employees who are 50% FTE* or more.

Vacation Leave – Depending on job classification, the School provides three weeks of paid vacation annually. Administrators and eligible administrative staff may receive four to five weeks annually. Faculty are not eligible for vacation leave.

Personal Days – Faculty and ten month employees are not eligible for vacation leave but are granted two paid personal days.

Holidays – The School offers paid holidays for eligible employees: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day. Other holidays may be granted at the discretion of the Head of School.

Other Leave – Paid leave is offered for jury duty, bereavement and other circumstances approved by the Head of School. Extended leave without pay may also be granted by the Head of School.

Daily lunch is provided for all employees at no charge.

A Housing Assistance Program is available to employees who are at least 75% FTE*. The Business Office can provide the details to interested employees.

Legal Resources Plan – All employees may participate in Norwood’s Legal Services Benefit Plan. For a nominal monthly fee employees can receive advice, consultation, and courtroom representation for commonly used legal services from local attorneys.
