• Middle School Literacy Coordinator and English Teacher

  Norwood has an opening for an experienced, dynamic, child-centered educator to support literacy instruction in grades 5-8. The literacy coordinator teaches three reading/language arts or English classes across grades 5-8 and supports teachers in all departments to develop and implement best practices in literacy instruction. They collaborate with teachers to offer individual and small group reading and writing support and enrichment; they also collaborate with teachers and the learning specialist to implement and support intervention plans for students in reading and writing. The literacy coordinator administers reading assessments as appropriate and examines data to measure the success of literacy programs and instruction. They also perform other duties as assigned.

   

  Ideally, applicants should have five years of working with middle school aged students in literacy-related areas. A background in phonics-based instruction through programs like Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, etc. is preferred. Bachelor's degree required, advanced course work in literacy instruction preferred.

  Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, Norwood has an opening for an experienced, creative, and engaging math instructor to teach seventh and eighth grade math. Responsibilities for this position include teaching pre-algebra, algebra and geometry and leading an advisory. Successful candidates will plan and implement engaging lessons, report on student progress, provide differentiated student support and enrichment as appropriate, and perform various duties connected to being a full-time faculty member. Ideal candidates will have a passion for learning, will inspire appreciation for math, and work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and across other disciplines.

   

  Applicants for the middle school math position must have at least two years of experience teaching middle school math courses. Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.   Norwood seeks an Admission Coordinator to handle office coordination, event planning and implementation, communicating to outside constituents, and supporting the admission office in all aspects of recruitment and admission for Norwood School. They must exhibit excellent interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, technical, written, and oral communication skills and should also possess the following qualities and attributes: positivity, integrity, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.

   

  Essential job functions include:

   

  • Communicating Norwood's mission and vision to prospective parents, prospective students, educational consultants, and feeder school representatives
  • Supporting annual admission goals, in accordance with the School's mission to increase representation of socio-economically, racially, culturally, and socially underrepresented populations in the student body, based on enrollment goals
  • Managing administrative responsibilities and general office operations
  • Managing and updating the online application and enrollment database modules, and processing online applications and annual information updates
  • Managing schedule and communications for parent interviews and tours, and student visits and assessments
  • Interviewing and touring prospective families
  • Supporting admission events such as open houses, fairs, and welcome receptions
  • Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Fulfilling duties as assigned by the Director of Admission and Enrollment Management

   

  The Admission Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month, staff, benefits-eligible position. • After School Program Staff - Aide (Part Time)

Norwood’s after school program is a play-based, teacher-guided program promoting healthy social and emotional development of young children in a child-centered environment.

   

  Qualified Aide candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have at least one year of experience working with children in a childcare or summer camp setting as a teacher, aide, or volunteer.  Additional qualifications include:

  • Patience and flexibility

  Essential functions include:

  • Provide care and oversight to students during activities such as indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, cooking, daily snack distribution and cleanup, and homework support for students in grades 3-8 (as needed)

  • Work collaboratively with the After Care Program Director to provide a consistent approach in supporting each child’s developmental needs
  • Maintain health and safety standards that promote high quality care for young children as prescribed by the Maryland Department of Education’s Office of Child Care

   

  Successful candidates will be required to maintain First Aid and CPR certifications and participate annually in required CEU training approved by the Maryland Department of Education’s Office of Child Care. In addition, candidates must meet the licensing requirements set forth by the State of Maryland’s Office of Child Care and other regulatory agencies, including a pre-employment medical exam.  A State of Maryland and FBI background check will also be performed.
